Summary Description:

The Outreach Representative will build effective relationships with members and non-members, including state, public, and academic libraries, archives, museums, and consortia to facilitate cooperation and collaboration; and to promote LYRASIS products and services. The overarching goal of the position is to: utilize your natural enthusiasm to create institutional change through a variety of LYRASIS services. This position creates impacts for the institutions and communities we serve, while directly contributing to the sustainability and growth of the most exciting non-profit organization in the LAMs ecosystem.


The role requires comfort working with both Library leaders (State Librarians, Public Library Directors, University Librarians and Directors) and Practitioners (Archivists, Scholarly Communication and E-Resource librarians, Special Collections Librarians). The role also requires developing a working vocabulary and knowledgebase around practitioner service areas that LYRASIS serves to engage in consultative conversation(s) that matches institutional service needs to Lyrasis programs and services, including joining Lyrasis as a member institution to access exclusive benefits.


Duties/Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage with member institutions, future member institutions and other adjacent communities as a primary day-to-day function and become an ally to institutions in the geographic region, while actively promoting Lyrasis as a non-profit, mission aligned partner
  • Must be highly effective in developing and maintaining successful institutional relationships with Key Decision Makers at different levels and working with them to understand the Lyrasis value to them in their specific work
  • Self-starter who acts as primary relationship-builder for key accounts
  • Through engagement, build an understanding of institutional needs to align with Lyrasis programs and/or services that resolve or help meet the needs of that institution
  • Travel regionally to meet with various staff in libraries, archives and museums. There is occasional national travel for conferences, trade shows and other events
  • Be or become fluent in understanding the industry knowledge requirements
  • Be or become fluent in understanding the benefits and value proposition of open source technologies, to drive participation in one or several of our technology solutions
  • Develops and executes effective territory planning that includes strategies and tactics to achieve both assigned Territory and Organizational goals
  • Primarily through site visits, proactively prospect and interview library, archives and museum staff about current and future needs and be able to provide LYRASIS solutions based on needs assessment
  • Be results oriented and responsible for meeting performance goals, which include sustainability and growth goals as well as other metrics, such as impact
  • Develop broad knowledge of trends and developments in the field, as well as a thorough understanding of LYRASIS's products, services, and membership structure to build credibility as you represent Lyrasis. Be intellectually curious and passionate about emerging trends in cultural heritage, scholarly communication, and open science needs
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in or with libraries or similar cultural heritage institutions.
  • Understanding of the role of State Libraries, Archives, Museums, and Consortia in library services and operations
  • Proven track records of meeting or exceeding sales or organizational goals
  • Proficiency in territory management and building strategic plans that address organizational goals, including revenue
  • Proficiency in developing broad spectrum of product knowledge
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Must be able to collect, analyze and evaluate information in a variety of ways
  • Solid understanding of MS Office applications, general computer technology (SharePoint, etc), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and be proactive about learning other new enterprise level software
  • Must possess self-directed initiative and excel in the areas of time management, organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking
  • Requires the ability to effectively explain complex concepts, products, and services
  • Must possess strong leadership experience
  • Ability to evolve to changing circumstances

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to build, maintain and grow relationship with organizations, libraries in particular
  • Relevant experience in or with membership organizations or non-profits is highly desirable
  • MLS or MLIS desired
