LYRASIS Hosting Services operates open-source web applications for cultural heritage institutions (Libraries, Archives and Museums) throughout North America and worldwide.

LYRASIS is looking for an experienced system developer for its diverse cloud-hosting services using open-source software. This position requires experience with application infrastructure and deployment, along with web application development and related tooling.

Duties/Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance LYRASIS infrastructure and configuration management systems, making incremental improvements to the existing systems, and planning for and implementing major refactors to accommodate future growth and architectural refinements over time.
  • Deploy new clients for the hosting services using LYRASIS configuration management systems.
  • Perform version upgrades of the major components of each hosting service, and other periodic maintenance.
  • Make assessments and perform analyses of the service environments for operational improvements, using APM tools, AWS CloudWatch metrics and similar.
  • Work on the day-to-day operations of the hosting services, providing client support and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to the development of internal tools: this includes cli applications, web applications, application plugins, AWS lambda functions etc.
  • Participate in the open-source communities that develop the hosted services software applications. This can take several forms including community working groups and code development.

Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Experience and Training

  • 2-4 years' experience with web application deployment including the use of configuration management tools (AWS, Ansible, Terraform, Docker is preferred).
  • 2-4 years' experience with one or more programming languages (Ruby / Python preferred).
  • 2-4 years' experience developing, debugging and testing web applications using standard frameworks (Ruby on Rails, Django, Spring etc.).
  • Proven ability to interact with other developers and business teams.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills including writing technical documentation.
  • Self-starter who excels in time management, organization, and prioritization.
  • Experience contributing to an open-source project

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on a remote team
