LYRASIS is seeking an Outreach Representative to build effective relationships with state libraries, archives, museums, and consortia to facilitate cooperation and collaboration; and promoting LYRASIS products and services. The overarching goals of the position is to: utilize your natural enthusiasm, conviction and passions to create institutional change through a variety of LYRASIS services. This position creates impacts for the institutions and communities we serve, while directly contributing to the sustainability and growth of the most exciting non-profit organization in the LAMs ecosystem.

LYRASIS seeks to find that unique individual who is interested in a rewarding career with a non-profit technology focused organization, as an Outreach Representative. This role requires a mission-driven, service-oriented individual to cultivate, develop, and maintain many strong relationships with both leaders and practitioners of object-holding institutions.

This is a position that is home-office based and can be based regionally throughout the United States, within a geographic designation. The role requires comfort working with C-level leaders (CEOs, Deans, University Librarians), as well as developing a working vocabulary and knowledge base around practitioner service areas that LYRASIS services (Collections Management, Collections Development & Scholarly Communication, Special Collections, Archives and more). Working as a problem solver, the Outreach Representative develops relationships, interviews & engages, and ultimately positions LYRASIS services that solve local, regional and even geographical issues.

 

Duties/Job Responsibilities: 

 

  • Actively engage with members, future members and other communities as a primary day-to-day function and become an ally to institutions in the geographic region.
  • This role includes frequent regional travel to meet with various staff in libraries, archives and museums. There is occasional national travel for conference and other events.
  • Be or become fluent in understanding the value proposition of open source technologies, in order to drive participation in one or several of our technology solutions.
  • Develops and executes effective territory planning that includes strategies, tactics to achieve both assigned Territory and Organizational goals.
  • Proactively prospect and interview library, archives and museum staff about current and future needs and be able to provide LYRASIS solutions based on needs assessment.
  • Responsible for meeting performance goals, which include sustainability and growth goals as well as other metrics.
  • Be intellectually curious about advances in cultural heritage, scholarly communication and open science needs. Read, participate, become a player in both the practical and innovative conversations taking place daily in this exciting and emerging knowledge management and cultural heritage intersections.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Understanding of the role of State Libraries, Archives, Museums, and Consortia in library services and operations
  • Proficiency in territory or product management
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Must be able to collect, analyze and evaluate information in a variety of ways
  • Solid understanding of MS Office applications, CRM System familiarity and general computer technology (SharePoint, etc)
  • CRM (Customer Relationship Management) experience
  • Must develop broad knowledge of trends and developments in the field and a thorough understanding of LYRASIS's products, services and membership structure
  • Must be highly effective in developing and maintaining successful member relationships
  • Must possess self-directed initiative and excel in the areas of time management, organization, prioritization and multi-tasking
  • Self-starter who acts as primary relationship-builder for key accounts
  • Requires the ability to effectively explain complex concepts, products and services
  • Ability to understand members' needs and present the most cost-effective solutions for libraries
  • Must possess strong leadership experience
  • Must be mission driven
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding operational and/or sales goals

 

Preferred

  • Proven ability to build, maintain and grow relationship with organizations, libraries in particular
  • Relevant experience in or with membership organizations or non-profits is highly desirable
  • MLS or MLIS desired
